چکیده
The aim of this study is to introduce a stress-based non-binary contact model missing in classical discrete element method (DEM). To tackle issue, force-displacement law generalized by utilizing the trace particle stress tensor make all contacts dependent on other and thus, account for multiple simultaneously acting single particle. Simulation results uniaxial confined (oedometric) compression employing our new multi-contact were compared with formulation, an existing strain-based model, experimental data. satisfactory agreement between these supports validity model. Several test examples at higher load levels show that able capture stronger non-linearity stresses. Due its simplicity, proposed can easily be integrated any DEM implementation, remaining relatively fast when more complex methods or even discretization particles, e.g. FEM.

Multiple-contact discrete-element model for simulating dense granular media.
This article presents a new force model for performing quantitative simulations of dense granular materials. Interactions between multiple contacts (MC) on the same grain are explicitly taken into account. Our readily applicable MC-DEM method retains all the advantages of discrete-element method simulations and does not require the use of costly finite-element methods. The new model closely rep...
متن کاملScm – a Soil Contact Model for Multi-body System Simulations
The paper introduces a new simulation tool called Soil Contact Model (SCM) that has been recently developed at DLR’s Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics. SCM provides an interface between the classical terramechanics theory of Bekker and the capabilities of multi-body system (MBS) simulation technique for general, full 3D simulations of soil contact dynamics problems. Beyond the computation ...
متن کاملPhysics Engine Based Parallelised Discrete Element Model
Recently software libraries known as physics engines have begun to gain interest within the computing communities. They are designed primarily for use within the computer game industry but also currently find credence within real-time animation and robotics simulation. The technical requirements of a Discrete Element Model (DEM) are markedly similar to that of a gaming rigid body problem. A DEM...
متن کاملA Multi-Physics Simulation Model Based on Finite Element Method for the Multi-Layer Switched Reluctance Motor
Using ANSYS finite element (FE) package, a multi-physics simulation model based on finite element method (FEM) is introduced for the multi-layer switched reluctance motor (SRM) in the present paper. The simulation model is created totally in ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) as a parametric model usable for various conventional types of this motor and it is included electromagnetic, therm...
متن کاملDiscrete Element Simulation and the Contact Problem
This paper addresses the problem of contact detection in discrete element multibody dynamic simulations. This paper presents an overview of the problem and a detail description of a new object representation scheme called the discrete function representation (DFR). This representation is designed to reduce the computational cost of both contact detection and the more diicult problem of contact ...
